McHale Newport-Berra
McHale joined The Primary School in 2017. With an interdisciplinary background in both education and health, she has content and technical expertise related to child development, child mental health, health promotion strategies, and school health, as well as deep practical knowledge of schools. McHale has worked in schools in multiple capacities, including as an elementary school teacher, a community health organizer, and a researcher. She has presented her work at national conferences on topics such as the evaluation of school and community-based obesity prevention initiatives; implementation of school wellness policies; and the relationship between school organizational climate and students’ socio-emotional development. McHale holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Michigan. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Duke University.
