Denisse Amaya
Denisse was born and raised in Colombia and immigrated to the San Francisco Bay in 2021. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Konrad Lorenz University in Bogotá, Colombia. During her time as an undergraduate student, she volunteered with TECHO, working side-by-side with families, helping them execute infrastructure projects to enhance community life. From this experience she learned how the children participation was crucial for gathering and engaging families.
Later on, she worked as a practitioner in a school providing psychological services to students undergoing difficulties, by doing so she realized how important it is to make parents and caregivers get involved to better provide the essential support that children need.
In California, after completing her ECE units at Foothill College, Denisse became a preschool teacher and she worked for almost two years in an Spanish immersion play-based program.
Due to her diverse experiences, Denisse truly believes that childhood development should be addressed from a holistic approach where all caregivers are engaged with their roles and know how to better support children to thrive.
